01 · Before & after

From a tub enclosure to a tiled walk-in shower.

The existing bathroom had a bathtub, a sliding enclosure, and light square wall tile. The renovation replaced that tub with a shower, bringing a warmer palette and a clearer view through the room.

02 · The work behind the change

Good finishes start with the work underneath.

Removing the tub and opening the walls made room for the new shower layout and plumbing work. This stage brought the existing conditions into view before the walls were closed and the tile installed.

SAND coordinated the shower preparation, waterproofing, tile installation, and glass enclosure as connected parts of the same project. The sequence mattered: each stage set up the next, from the shower base to the final glass fit.

03 · Bringing the room together

The details that make it feel complete.

The warm shower tile sits alongside the bathroom’s wood vanity and light countertop. Clear glass keeps the tile visible, while the corner shelves and shower fixtures give the space its everyday function.

The surrounding work included updates to the ventilation, lighting, mirror, and bathroom accessories. Coordinating those smaller decisions helped the shower and the rest of the room feel like one finished space.

COMPLETED · LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA

A familiar bathroom, thoughtfully reworked for everyday use.

For this La Jolla home, SAND replaced the existing tub with a tiled walk-in shower and coordinated the surrounding bathroom improvements. The goal was a space that felt more open, comfortable, and cohesive.

From the existing tub to a new shower

The original bathroom paired a tub and sliding enclosure with light square wall tile. Opening the walls made the framing and plumbing accessible before the new shower took shape. The finished space combines warm-toned wall tile, a mosaic shower floor, corner shelves, grab bars, and a clear glass enclosure.

The details around the room

The work also included updates to the ventilation, shower fixtures, lighting, mirror, and bathroom accessories. Keeping those decisions coordinated helped the room feel considered as a whole.
